Our Rector, the Very Reverend Charles (Chuck) Mullaly, is a lifelong Episcopalian. When he graduated from East Carolina University, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served as an officer in the Medical Service Corps. His experience in hospital administration led him to a Master’s Degree in health care administration from Baylor University. His twenty years of military service culminated in his role in helping to develop the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS). NDMS was designed to coordinate civilian and military health care systems in times of national crises. After retiring from the Army, Chuck returned to his long held dream of becoming an Episcopal priest. He graduated from the Virginia Theological Seminary and served at St. Peter’s in Arlington, Virginia before being called as Rector of Emmanuel in November, 1997. Chuck is married to Leith Merrow Mullaly. Theirs was an “arranged marriage” with both sets of parents encouraging their romance! They have two children, Christopher and Heather, a son-in-law , Tom, and three (perfect!) granddaughters. Hannah, Elizabeth, and Julia. Interestingly, Leith’s father was an Episcopal priest and her brother currently serves as the Rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Arlington, Virginia. an Episcopal priest and her brother currently serves as the Rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Arlington, Virginia. In 2005, Bishop Peter James Lee appointed our Rector to serve as Dean of Region XV in the Diocese of Virginia. In this capacity, Chuck serves as the Bishop’s representative to the eighteen churches in our region.
